Acupuncture

12If you are suffering from pain or disease that more conventional medicine cannot seem to treat, have you considered alternative holistic medicine like acupuncture? Dr. Michael Badanek is a registered chiropractor in Ocala with extensive experience and education in alternative or functional medicine and treatments.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is usually equated with needles, and this is partially true. It is most often the use of very thin, metallic needles inserted beneath the skin to stimulate the central nervous system. The needles are activated through the physician's hands or with electrical stimulation. Other forms of acupuncture involve heat or pressure, and there is also cupping, which is the use of suction, and finally, friction or possibly electromagnetic therapy.

Acupuncture is an ancient, oriental treatment that focuses on the energy flow or Qi throughout the body's pathways connecting over 2000 acupuncture points. This energy flow maintains and promotes the overall health of your body. It is believed that stimulating acupuncture points allows the flow of energy to be restored if it has been interrupted or blocked, resulting in ill health.

When can acupuncture be used as a treatment?

Acupuncture effectively treats specific health problems, activating the body's natural healing abilities. Still, it should be administered by someone with experience and knowledge such as Dr. Badanek, who has over 40 years of experience.

Acupuncture has shown to be effective in treating the following ailments.

  • Nausea from medical treatments or procedures
  • Pain including lower back pain, myofascial pain, menstrual cramps, and headaches.
  • Asthma
  • Addiction
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Osteoarthritis

How long does an acupuncture treatment last?

Before any acupuncture treatment can be administered, you will need to be assessed by your healthcare practitioner. They will meet with you to establish your overall health and determine whether acupuncture will be the most effective and correct treatment for your symptoms and condition.

The acupuncture treatment itself lasts anywhere between a few minutes and an hour. The average is approximately twenty minutes, and you should not experience significant pain. You may feel a slight tingling or dull ache when the needles are first inserted, but this should subside during the treatment, and there should be no pain afterward. You may need only one acupuncture treatment or several over a few weeks.
